Rockin' the Block v2 - Hixson Ave Progress

With the cold and snow that Winter brings, the construction schedule inevitably slows down. Regardless of the weather, at Syracuse Habitat for Humanity, we certainly have a lot to be grateful for. We want to say thank you again for the tremendous effort and support of our subcontractors, volunteers, sponsors, and all of the individuals who are making these two houses possible. If you haven’t seen the Hixson Ave Builds since the last Harbinger – you’d hardly recognize it! A few recent milestones include:

  • Exterior & Roof Framing

  • Roofing – Special thanks to Van Derhoof Roofing and Crown Construction for donating the labor for each house in conjunction with the GAF / HFHI Gift-in-Kind Program donation of shingles

  • Shed Framing

  • Start of the EIFS System, with the application of exterior insulation and base coats

  • Window Installation

  • Start of interior framing

Don’t take our word for it, these pictures more than speak for themselves!

As far as we’ve come, there is still work to be done to get these houses ready for their future homeowners. Along with general fundraising, a few key areas that we are in need of support are listed below – if you know anyone who might be able to help, we would greatly appreciate if you could share with them.

  • Drywall hanging (cathedral ceilings)

  • Driveway Paving & Sidewalks (spring)

  • Sewer excavation

  • Materials: drywall, interior trim, flooring for 2nd floor, open cell spray foam insulation, paint for concrete block, electrical service wire, lighting

Any donation, whether monetary, product, or labor, helps tremendously – no matter the size! Please keep Syracuse Habitat for Humanity in mind as you plan your 2018 giving and volunteering. Weather permitting, the build site will start to pick-up again soon.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we cannot thank all of you enough for your support! We invite each of you to stop by the job-site and see our progress, and keep watching our Facebook page for continued updates moving forward. As always, we are only a phone call or email away and happy to answer your questions.
