Holiday Wish List 2024

Dear Habitat Family, Friends, & Supporters,

On a sunny day in October, we had the pleasure of celebrating an event that is always one of my favorite days of my job: a Home Dedication.  These occasions, along with Ground Blessings, are solid proof that the work we do is so much bigger than me, my staff, our donors and volunteers, and even Syracuse Habitat itself. Our work is ultimately about the people who purchase their very own home for the first time.

Research proves that the benefits of homeownership are numerous, including but certainly not limited to building generational wealth and equity, providing stability, and better health outlooks for children. Yet it is the witnessing of these dedications and blessings that truly conveys the personal impact of homeownership. It’s watching the homebuyer, surrounded by family and friends, realize their dream is finally coming true. It’s seeing the tears in many eyes around the room as they feel the significance of the occasion. It’s watching little kids see their new rooms for the first time.

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to dedicate the home on Fairdale Ave. to Anaseia and her three children, and it was on this day that a new chapter

of her journey began.  Next week, they will own and live in their brand-new home.

That is the power of Syracuse Habitat for Humanity.  Yes, we build homes and community, but we also build hope.  Hope for a brighter future.  Hope for more families.  Hope for Anaseia, a second-generation Habitat homeowner.

As we move into 2025 and beyond, we have big plans at Syracuse Habitat to grow and serve more families.  We anticipate many more Ground Blessings and Home Dedications over the next several years, and I sincerely hope you will continue to support us in the ways that are the best fit for you.  So, whether you have time to volunteer, money to contribute, or the voice to spread the importance of affordable homeownership, there is always a place for you with us.

Thank you for being a part of the Syracuse Habitat community.  I am eternally grateful.

With Gratitude and Love,

Sarah D. Bruce, AIA

Executive Director

Reading the post about the holiday wish list and community giving, I liked how it shows people coming together to help families get homes. During a school project on charity funding, I also used VAT consultancy Dubai while learning how businesses manage money and donations in real situations. I once helped collect items for a class drive, which made the idea feel real. It shows small acts of giving can bring big hope to families. Overall it felt inspiring.
