Today is International Women's Day, and with it falling on #ThrowbackThursday, we thought we would look back and reflect on our 2010 Women Build Project, and re-introduce our amazing partner family who moved in to this Habitat home eight years ago: the Urufle and Boru Family.
Meet the Urufle and Boru Family: Acho Urufle and his family moved to Syracuse from Ethiopia on April 1st, 2004. The struggles Acho and his family endured while living in Africa were great. Acho and his wife Fate Boru found themselves homeless, with no money and no food to feed their family. Without support in his country, Acho got relief through the United Nations Refugee Services and they brought him to America. Once in America, Acho found work to support his family and he briefly visited with a friend in North Carolina. It was there he learned that his friend owned a Habitat for Humanity House. Acho researched more about the program in hopes that one day he too could own a Habitat for Humanity house. In 2009, he filled out an application and began the process of being a Syracuse Habitat homeowner and the family was selected for our 2010 Women Build home. Now, eight years later, the Urufle and Boru Family still live in this home on Gifford Street.
