First Syracuse Women Build Complete!

The first ever Women Build project hosted by Syracuse Habitat for Humanity is now complete and was a huge success! Thanks to many sponsors, donors, and volunteers, a local family's dream of owning a home is now a reality. The Little family moved into the house in December, 2005, in time for the holiday season! We hosted several fundraisers and special events and reached our goal of $75,000 to build home. This project united women in the community, from volunteers who were on the site to learn and build relationships to seasoned females in the construction trade. The lessons learned and bonds formed during this project will last a lifetime!

There will not be a Women Build 2006. Any information on a possible future Women Build will be posted here or on the Syracuse Habitat website when it becomes available.
e first ever Women Build project
hosted by Syracuse Habitat for Humanity, Inc. took place April 30th - May 7th, 2005. This exciting project brought together women of all backgrounds and ability levels to plan and construct a simple and decent home for a deserving family!

The Women Build program invites women to address the problem of substandard housing and its effects on the health and well being of children. In the United States, 12 million children – one in six – live in substandard housing. Though safe, decent housing is critical to a child’s health and development, children are more likely to live in poverty than any other age group.

Syracuse Habitat for Humanity is proud to offer this opportunity for concerned women to directly address the affordable housing crisis that exists in our own community.
men Build history
In 1991 the first Habitat for Humanity house built by women was completed in Charlotte, NC. With this, the seeds for Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Program were planted, and in May 1998, the Women Build department was officially instituted.

Since 1991, female crews have built more than 350 Habitat houses in the United States, and the program has grown internationally as well.

From April 1999 through April 2001, the Women Build department put forth its first formal initiative, First Ladies Build. Through First Ladies Build, female governors and first ladies in each of the 50 states joined Habitat for Humanity to build houses with families in need.
